Emerge 2010

Emerge 2010 on 13-03-2010 @ Zirca just ended last night at around 11.15pm.

Was asked to queue at 545pm but the gate was opened at around 7pm.

It was a 3.5Hours concert.

Double the duration of what we normally had.

Voices Emerge with SIM & NTU dances & Special performances by Music Garrage & Jasmine Tye.

Met the seniors.

The concert was not bad. *Congrats*

Pre-recordings = a good choice = tho a lil 太明显

Seating just right beside those speakers.

Blasting right into my ears. *_* Too Loud !!! Especially the Bass & the Drums. BooHoo *_*

A bit of technical faults here & there.

Vocalists's responses to those faults were discussed.

Concert was a bit too long to hold our attention.

Eugene the Guitarist was great !

Sze Hou the usual amazing falsetto for a guy.

All i see is dance after dance.

Songs were nice. Most of them are fast-numbers.

Some were upset over the technical faults. *But don't worry, you gurls still do greats =)*

Really...Side view wasn't as great...But no choice =)

After that night, I dreamt of keeonn telling me that they were facing a deficit of $2k+++

Guess I was worried for them, cos they need 1000pax to break even, but i doubt there is 1000pax in Zirca last night.

And that they were alrd planning for Emerge 2011. Cos facing this deficit will in a way affect the emerge for next year.

And I dreamt that Emerge 2011 had to be held in NUS due to serious budget constraint & deficit caused by Emerge 2010.

huBb laugh at my silly-ness for dreaming of such thing.

I know I'm crazy about dreaming about this. I find it funny too.

It is worrying me because all they want is to have a huge concert. A big one. Everything must be good. All aspects. And Money is the last thing that came to their mind.

Oh My. I shall stop here. I'm of nobody to be worrying about this now.

This man leaving us for 6months -- SEP @ Hong Kong.
Best wishes & Hope he doesnt gain too much weight back. *Something Gaby wouldnt want*
Final wish for his pupilage interview @ the law firm. *Hopefully we can meet up when he is back for a lil break*Or maybe we shouldnt take up his precious time with gaby =p*

Today's journey started off with me travelling to bedok & huBb's hopping into my journey at cityhall. We had our lunch at the bedok hawker. Yummy Yummy !!

After the lunch, we travelled to changi airport. Since we were early, so we roam hop ard T1 and T2. Final destination at T1 to meet our dearest friend, Roger.
This man who speaks pretty fast & logically well. --- 职业病 as a lawyer.
Communicating comfortably with huBb for certain reasons.
Alrights !! We'll miss him lotsa !!

Mini Concert 2009 @ Dentistry Auditorium

Mini Concert 2009

huBb & I met up with roger before attending mini concert 2009 @ dentistry auditorium.
We alighted at the busstop jus after that round about and tried to find our way to faculty of dentistry.
We were running cos its raining with thunder & lightnings ~_~
Was shocked to see mortuary instead of some proper entrance.
So we walked back and asked the security guards at the loading/unloading bay just behind the canteen.

After getting some directions, we walked to NUH. Passed the emergency ward to the main lobby. The lady at the counter told us to find lift lobby 6 and proceed up to level 4 where the dentistry auditorium is located at.
But there is NO sign NO sign that tells us the directions to lift lobby 6. There is only lobby 1-5 and it stops there ~_~Amazingly, a few performers were with us finding the auditorium too when its alrd 730pm and the concert was planned to start at 730pm too.

Thanks to roger, we got to sit in before the audiences are allowed to enter the premise =)
Poor Marcus and the sound girl were still struggling with the over powering sound system. Wootz =) *Got to know from KeeOnn that the fac of dentistry gave them prob by not allowing them to enter earlier to perform sound check*Haix some stuff just cant be forecasted ya* Gaby was busy getting the vocalists to go into their respective places but *as usual* everyone are too excited and nervous to settle down.

*Hahax !! Roger was playing on his iphone during the concert :P*
The mini concert was mainly handled, planned & managed by the main comm. I know it has been tough for them to 一手包办一切 with lil help from their fellow juniors. Saw them busy & feeling stress running around the auditorium, up and down the stage trying to fix all problems. Tried their best in finding a not very accessible venue but cos of the beautiful stage that fulfil the wish of a performer. *Hahax tho i saw the loud girl tryin to climb up the stage without using the stairs - luckily she is in her shorts*

As an audience, purely an audience, what we see is only what u gave us on stage right at that moment of time. What we will never see is all the hard work that you have been putting in, the days u spent planning, running around the sch, practicing your dance & 台步 & of cos the hours you put in to practice the song *be it on your own or as a group*
There is such a saying：台下十年工，台上三分钟. Audience only get to see that 3 mins of urs & not the ten years of hardwork that you have put in.

Individually, the vocalists were no doubt able to sing pretty well with good quality. However, by singing in a group or in a duet, there is no such thing as individualism anymore. Blending in is all that you should be doing. A good example: the girl named Miao Ru *the only girl whom her name i remembered..the only girl that i acknowledge of having powerful vocal with good voice control* She had very nice & powerful vocal, but she tried her best in compromising with her duet partner and that resulted in a good performance !! SHE IS THE BEST VOX OF THE NIGHT !!

Anyway, both the seniors and juniors 都辛苦了！Strive for a better performance at Emerge 2010. Can I perform ???? Wahahhaax !!!!!

Finally the concert starts at 815pm or so with the interlude by the junior band. They are nervous ya. Not as stable as the seniors yet. Jia You lo ^_^

Two Hosts came on stage introducing mini concert. They will be labeled as "Loud Girl" & "Guy in Brown" Alrights I dont remember their names ya :p
This "guy in brown" has a very sleepy voice. So funny...hosting ma...you need bright bright voice to be outstanding. The "loud girl" has a very bright voice, however its her style of hosting the night ba. Anyway, jia you jia you orh !! You guys might have to host Emerge 2010 =) Or best get Jimmy to do it !! He is DAMN GOOD !!! ^_^ Guess, the hosts will get some "teachings" from our DJ Judson ^_^

Ok, here wat i see as an audience, with very lenient comments:

《不是我不明白》
Entry with no music is really challenging to start with the correct key. A lil slip in entering with a wrong key and lil crack in voice. I love her 气音 but it can be improved with a lil more input of energy =) Other than that, the song is not bad. Ooo...and 要培养一点默契吗，他们看起来很像仇家耶。

《我还想她》
Sung by 3 vocalists if i din rmb wrongly. Criss Cross 走台 - a point this girl almost have to almost squeeze through the gap to complete their formation. This song was alright too with a lil off key. Its flat. The "loud girl" is too loud. Your fellow friends have good voices too & they ought to have a chance in showcasting their voices too. Please do allow them the chance to do so like u did =) 他们也有存在的价值。

《分生》
Ooo I love 张惠妹's song. Other than 掉了& 彩虹，分生is the 3rd song i love from her new album. Soft at the beginning & sudden Rocker feel at the chorus. Was waiting for that effect. Guess the 高音部分 like wat they said on stage its their 致命伤。张惠妹的歌好难对吧，低音部分就很低，高音部分又有爆发力。
The vocalists did the 低音 acceptably. Combining the forces at the chorus is a right choice to show the powerful vocal of 张惠妹. I love 张惠妹!!! Hahax !!! Ok...back to topic, but there is this peak of the song where the key is at its highest note & only the girl in white sang it. She hit the key correctly, though a bit 虚。But she still did it.

I think it would be good if all three vocalists can do it together so that the peak of the song will be sung with more power. =)
*Combine Force = Power* Overall, its not bad with a lil slip in key.

《PK》
I love this duet by Gary !! WooHoo.
Ok...I was kind of wanting to hear the voice of the male vocalist. I guess he is kind of sad himself that his mic isnt working well :( I really wanted to hear how he would sound like in that song, hopefully he is really good. Anyway, the "girl in off-shoulder top", no doubt able to sing tho her legs open a bit too wide. Hahax, but pls spare a tot for your partner. He is down & looking down at the floor already, walking aimlessly to the other end of the stage jus cos his voice cant be heard.

As part of singing a duet: you have to control your volume to blend in with your partner. Or you can react spontaneously by sharing a mic or passing him the mic when you arent singing. *Please tell me if im wrong that you should not spare a tot for your poor partner* The song would be good if i can hear the guy singing too^_^

《我爱你》《候鸟》《星光》
S.H.E. songs seems easy & pretty simple, but they have very beautiful 3 parts harmony that make all their songs complete. Choose them & be ready to perform well -- especially the harmonizing portion. The performers are not too bad with a lil slip by going flat. There is this girl she din smile through all her performances, kind of seem dejected by her team members.

If Im not wrong 《候鸟》is one of the better one. With a bit of harmo tho off key right at the last sentence. I love the girl in "mini grey skirt & peach-color top" !! Her voice is very sexy ^_^ 我就特别喜欢有雌性的声音。

《改变自己》
The Host mumbled while introducing the song title & i tot i heard 待在家改变自己.
Hahax Anyway, the guy with very nasal voice prepared a very cute introduction of the song. Hahax !! His partner "the fair and skinny guy" has a nice smile but very soft voice.

Overall, the song was not too bad. Just that one is loud & one is soft. Eh...im a no no to a guy singing with very nasal voice. =p Jia You Jia You for the guy that did a funny intro !!

《心动心痛》
A good choice !!!!! Cos its a pretty easy duet with nice & simple harmo !!!!! And you guys did it well =) 缺了点默契。harmonizing was pretty well done.

《痛快》
sung after the intermission with Minus One. Finally, a song with very full feel of music*I meant the minus one* !!
If im not wrong, one of the vocalist is the "loud girl". Like I have said earlier on, your fellow partners have good voices too. Please blend in & allow them to perform too =)

《复刻回忆》
I love this duet too & it suppose to have some RnB feel cos its sung by 方大同. WooHoo !!
If im not wrong, key of the music was down by a few semi-tone.
Cos the girl had terrible time trying to reach the lower notes while feeling very comfortable with much higher notes.
I agree that finding a duet to suit both the male & the female is kind of tough -- all becos of the ranges of notes.
Song is not bad...would be better if the "斯文的男孩" can work on his vocal range & produce brighter notes =) 好思文哦！！放一点！！

《可不可以不勇敢》
A song originally sung by 范玮琦 was performed as a duet. The guy was brave enough to take up this song & sing with his falsetto. The female vox 都被他电到不看观众，只看着他。The guy did good 3rd harmo.
Hahax !! Both of them had voices that are not bad. The girl could have project her voice more, cos she is kinda soft at some portion of the song, overpowered by the guy when she is suppose to sing the main melody line.

Overall, not bad. She is beautiful & the guy is charming too. The keyboards cant be heard & the drums were over powering. Hahax :p

《不够成熟》
The "sound girl" & "violin girl" sang this song. The "sound girl" plays good keyboard !!! She is real good ya !!! It would be good if she can play for the whole song *cos she is looking good behind those keyboard*Talented girls are always beautiful* For the "violin girl" poor thing she got laughed by the whole crowd of audience. Since she played the violin, the audience would want to hear more of the violin. If its jus for a few phrases, then might as well dont play & prevent the audience for laughing. She gave us a weird look when she had to pass down her violin too. Must be feeling awkward. Poor thing, The song was not bad too.

《天天夜夜》
Hahax !! Since the intro of the minus one cant be erased, might as well let it play & dun sing. If the voice is going to be the same throughout den it will be amazing, but when its not then dont sing the intro.

Ooo...the female vox dressed up beautifully but what abt the male vox ?? Hmmm...dress up for the girl ma :p She looked beautiful for u, do a favor for her ma =)
The guy keep having 笑场 when the girl is so serious abt the performance. BooHoo !!! 为女孩叫屈!!

Could have had better voice control with hitting high notes. The song was not bad too.

《花很迷惘》
WooHoo !! I love this duet !! Love it Love it Love it !! Its very powerful & challenging for the female vox & Miao Ru is GOOD !!!! She is the BEST VOCALIST of the Day !!!!! The song is pretty tough i agree, and the male vox did his best to 配合.

Tho its not the perfect song of the day but STILL I CANT HELP IT BUT TO GIVE THUMBS UP UP UP FOR THIS SONG !!!!

Good vocal !! Good Control !! Good Techniques !! Good Blending !! Always sparing a thot for her partner -- I LOVE IT !!!! VERY GOOD is all that i can say to her performance !!!!
Please girls --- learn from her =) She is so so way UPS UPS UPS !!!!

Oh to add on: They are the FIRST GROUP to say THANK YOU to the audience. I was so happy to hear that !!! GOOD GOOD GOOD !!!! ^_^ Hope that Miao Ru can sing a solo at emerge 2010 =)

《Fall in Love》
Ooo..the 3 girls too have good vocal. Tho in my heart Miao Ru is always the best our of the best.
Of all the performance, this is the group with voices that blended pretty well. The 3 girls were pretty well selected for the song. Really !!!

Group singing ma -- its best you can find voices that suits one another with no distinct coming out somewhere. They are good example of the correct selection.

If higher notes can be reach with lesser energy would be nice for the feel of the song.
Saw Joel the keyboardist similing at the girl sitting besie him. Hahax !! *smilex*

《乖乖牌》
舞曲。跳舞是对的。女生还不错。男生好奇怪哦。

《Bad Boy》
Good to see ppl dancing to the song. Its all about the control. I know the girl in shiny purple top can hit the high notes with power like 张惠妹。But 张惠妹 sings she screams. Need better Voice & Mic control.

Overall, the song very high. She did all the stuff to make the song WILD. Ooo...can try practicing in front of the mirror and be consious of the movements you produced on stage.

《Walk On》
The best song of the day. Really good. The guy in white shirt black vest sang VERY WELL !!!
I prefer to hear the brown guy sing rather than to host. Or maybe he can host the show singing.
They have very good 默契, unlike the 《改变自己》。They are very comical and their performances were enjoyable.

*Best is that my Senior Rayner can tell me which album and the sequence of the song for Walk On*A very big fan of tao ze :p

I started my day rushing out to Jurong Point to find party poppers for dearest marcus. And ended up waiting for YingPeng for 30mins !!! Stupid PaiGu always let gurls wait for him .. it isnt the first time le lo *_*

At Lunar -130pm:

Ard 2pm, the final rehearsal started !! Everything run quite quite smoothly !! And everybody started changing, doing make-up & hair after the reheasal.

Thanks to terry who help them to packed chicken rice !!

I walked around looking at them doing their make-up & hair. And helping out a lil when i can.

Was shocked & shy about it. Was blushing throughout the whole incident !! Din even know what to do and what to say !!! And huBb told me, people who din attend Emerge knew abt it too !! Gosh !!

Terribly in Pain ~_~
Too much green tea i guess ... boohoo !!!
my favourite drink makes me suffer !!!

Its the first day i skipped voices friday session after stepping up.
All becos of that unbearable pain...
cant sit cant stand cant walk cant do anything...
And i was forced to go back home
Luckily my dad is so nice enough to come and fetch me home, even without knowing that i'm in such pain. ^_^

Its also the first time i allow huBb to carry my bag. The only agreement is that he dun carry it on his shoulder before i allow him to take it. ^_^

Lecture ended earlier than usual even with longer break.

It a treat for:

1) encouraging me to get an 'A' for my exam - thats an agreement made when i'm stepping into year 2 ?? or is it during year 1 sem 2 ??

2) missing my 21st bdae party !!! *Such an impt & meaningful occasion to me*And him having his very own impt & meaningful occasion too* Everything jus clashes so nicely !!!!!!

As usual, I cant really catch every single words he said, but at least its better than previous PM Law I. Still trying to get used to his 'slang' and 'speed'.

A dissertation under Dr Asanga or Dr Philip Chan would be great. But what topic can i do that is related to Law ?? Wahahx ^_^ They should be great supervisorsS !!

I heard dissertation under Prof Michael Chew is great too. Construction Technology ?? What are the area that hasnt been covered on that he would be interested in ??

Maybe i can do something that is Cost related under Dr Florence Ling or QS related under Dr Teo ?? Hahax !! I lurve Dr Florence Ling on her cost estimating module !!
